The Jamaica Inn
The Jamaica Inn stands as a haunting relic on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, England, constructed in 1750 as a coaching inn, steeped in a dark history of smuggling. Nestled just off the A30, near the heart of the moor and close to the eerie hamlet of Bolventor, it once served as a sinister staging post for weary travelers to change their horses.
The Inn served as a temperance house in the early 1900s, yet an inexplicable presence has lingered throughout the years. Most Haunted visited and labeled the Inn as one of the eeriest locations they had ever explored! On a night illuminated by the moon, you may hear the echo of horses’ hooves and the clatter of carriage wheels in the courtyard outside the Inn. Any effort to trace the source of the sound will likely end in frustration. Numerous accounts have reported the unsettling sound of footsteps pacing in the corridors outside the room, but upon investigation, no one has ever been found.
Another chilling tale involves a man clad in a hat and cloak who seemingly materialises from thin air, only to vanish through solid doors. Many managers of the Jamaica Inn have recounted hearing whispers of a foreign language in various spots. Could it be the remnants of the ancient Cornish tongue? The Inn has a long history of ghostly encounters, which recently led the Ghost Society to conduct an investigation.
